Doritos issues urgent recall of Tesco and Poundland crisps which have ‘harmful’ substance

Doritos has issued an urgent recall for its Tangy Cheese packets sold at Tesco and a similar product sold in Poundland over a health risk.

The popular snack was pulled from sale after it was found to contain undeclared soya, which could be harmful to people with allergies. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) raised the alarm when Doritos Tangy Cheese was mistakenly packed with Doritos Chilli Heatwave.

The affected products include the 180g bag of Doritos Tangy Cheese, sold only in Tesco, and Poundland’s stocks of Doritos Tangy Cheese 5x30g multipacks. These items may have been mispackaged and could pose a risk to those allergic to soya. Both products have a best before date of 1 June 2024.

The FSA stated: “Doritos is recalling the above product from customers and has been advised to contact the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall. The company has also issued a recall notice to customers.

“These notices explain why the product is being recalled and what customers should do if they’ve bought it.” The FSA has asked customers not to eat the product and instead call a Customer Care Line on 0800 274 777 to arrange a refund, reports the Mirror.

There have been reports that Lidl needed to urgently recall six types of cookies after fears some of them may contain metal. On Wednesday (21st February), the store issued a “do not eat” warning because the Tower Gate triple chocolate and lemon flavoured soft cookies might have pieces of metal in them, according to ITV. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) confirmed that customers should take back the items for a refund.

The FSA announced: “Lidl is recalling the above products. Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling these products. These notices explain to customers why the products are being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the products. If you have bought the above products do not eat them. Instead, return them to the store from where it was bought for a full refund.”
