‘Quadfather’ bodybuilder with 30-inch thighs still jacked aged 68 in unrecognisable snap

Tom Platz was known for his enormous legs and was dubbed ‘The Quadfather’ during his heyday in the 80s – despite looking totally different 40 years on, one part of his anatomy hasn’t changed

A bodybuilder once dubbed The Quadfather due to his 30-inch thighs looks unrecognisable in a recent photo, but shows he’s still jacked at the age of 68.

Back in the day Tom Platz was a top name in bodybuilding. Even though he never quite hit the heights of some of his contemporaries, his huge legs made him a household name.

Platz, who’s from Oklahoma, US, had super big quads measuring more than 30 inches around. Because of his freakishly large legs he wound up with cool nicknames like The Quadfather and Quadzilla.

He was also called The Golden Eagle, on account of his lustrous bright blonde locks, which shone all the more against his tournament tan.

The bodybuilding icon recently took to Instagram to show off a then-and-now comparison down at the gym and proved that, at least below the waist, very little has changed.

While the shimmering hair had been replaced by a darker brown-grey, and he is smaller physically, the pins remain massive as he edges towards 70.

Fans were amazed at how ripped the veteran still looked, with more than 70,000 clicking the like button and many descending on the comments section..

One fan wrote: “No insane genetics, just pure hard work and belief in god what an inspiration!”

Another joked: “Mr. Platz I only requested 5 MORE!”

A third added: “Bro look at his quads stillll.”

While a fourth said: “30years later the same attitude and legs.”

When Platz started showing off his legs in 1979, everyone in the bodybuilding world was amazed, as they were used to seeing big arms and shoulders.

Platz started working out when he was just a kid in Detroit.

He used to do some crazy exercises, like squatting eight times with 635 pounds and doing 52 squats with 350 pounds

Platz was known for his impressive squatting ability, often doing over 100 reps with 225 pounds for 10 minutes straight.

His dream was to win the Mr Olympia title, but despite his best efforts, he never managed to take home the trophy before retiring in 1987.

However, Platz has no regrets.

In a chat with Bodybuilding.com in 2019, he said: “I’ve always wanted the Mr Olympia trophy. I had a trophy cabinet built for it.

“But I would never trade what I received and the friendships made and the response I got for losing, for winning the Olympia trophy. I wouldn’t want to give up what I did get for the Mr Olympia trophy.”

He also revealed that he’s not as heavy as he used to be during his prime bodybuilding days, saying: “I’m about 180 pounds right now. Compared to the ’80s I’m extremely light now.”

Despite this, the bodybuilding legend still gets compliments on his legs.

He added: “It’s funny when I walk down the beach with my wife and somebody yells out, ‘nice legs man,’ my wife says, ‘they’re not talking to me honey.'”
